Before the pandemic crisis, more than one million veterans struggle with the chronic stress of hunger. Today, this population needs our help more than ever. From Detroit to Howell, Gleaners Community Food Bank is partnering with service providers to help distribute nutritious food to Michigan’s veterans.
“It helps a lot because I was receiving food stamps until 7-8 months ago.”
–Lawrence, Korean War Veteran
Since March, Gleaners has provided more than 7,000 emergency food boxes to veteran service providers. Each box offers enough nutritionally balanced foods for approximately 22 adult meals and provides corresponding recipes and nutrition information.
“Now I am staying positive and eager for the next day.”
–Erskine, a Korean War Veteran
The food is both healthy and versatile, allowing veterans and their families to prepare wholesome breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
Together with our partners, Gleaners is reaching more than 150,000 households each month during the COVID-19 pandemic. We provide an average of 6.7 million pounds of food each month through its COVID-19 response efforts and continued service to its network of agency partners.
You can make a difference for Veterans and their families during this difficult time by donating to Gleaners. There is an even greater need right now during this pandemic to help our neighbors in need.
Every $1 donated will provide 3 meals.
