The Bake Sale for Gleaners Community Food Bank was started by several BNP Media coworkers in 2004, just a small table of homemade goodies to raise charitable money during the holiday season. The bake sale returned, year after year, and over the next decade, the generous spirit of the office continued. We’ve grown to 7-8 bakers that have contributed for multiple years, plus new bakers volunteering every year. Our best years raised $700+ in ‘cookie power’ which was then generously matched by our company CEOs. The one-day office event had become quite a social gathering, with several yearly favorites regularly selling out in the first hour. New friends were made as everyone would congregate in a conference room full of cookies, recipes were exchanged, and most importantly, 100% of the funds raised went directly to Gleaners.
This year nearly our entire office has shifted to working remotely, and we’re hoping the spirit of the bake sale can carry us through the holiday season. Online donations, emailed recipes, and everyone will have the opportunity to bake on their own at home while still supporting Gleaners.
